Listen now | Time Travel, Liminal Worlds, and Lost Timelines. Whether you’re a fan of vintage speculative fiction, mid-century fiction, or Fortean time slips, this episode will transport you through Finney’s subtle, haunting reality slips.
Jack Finney also wrote crime thrillers. I've never read them, but I remember reading in The Big Book of Noir about a novel titled 4 Against The House. These observations about time had both a fun, whimsical side and a scary side. The scary side reminded me of The Backrooms, and of this story that I listened to some time ago, and was reminded of after listening to your post.
I wonder what Jack Finney would make of the present, with the glitches in the Matrix that resemble his stories, and how nostalgia has been made profitable.
I almost bought a copy of "Four Against the House" the other day but I don't care for casino heist stories so passed it by. Thanks for the link, 'll check it out! :) I have the story in one of his collections but I haven't read it in some time. Honestly, I can't remember too much about it.
I think both he and H. Beam Piper would have some very interesting things to say about a glitching matrix. Too bad that we'll never know. I guess we'll have to say it all for them. I'm up for it, what about you? But I also think that a glitching matrix gives all of us creatives some fascinating opportunities to play with reality. We do anyway, as artists. But this might give us a chance to do more. What more, I don't know. I guess time will tell (pun intended. ;-) )
Heist can be a hit or miss thing. When it's done well it's exciting to read them. I've never thought of looking for Four Against The House before, but now I'm curious.
I've never read this story but I found this adaptation in that it generates suspense, yet it's just recordings of people describing odd incidents that sound like those glitch in the matrix stories.
Yes! Let's run with the Torch Finney and Piper lit for us, and the glitch in the Matrix is a great gimmick we can use to explore. I have an idea of such a thing involving a research study a man attends and how reality begins to change in subtle ways for him.
Nice! I have two books coming out this year about twisty timelines. Not exactly the same thing, but in the ballpark. One of them even gives a reason for Mandela Effects. This may be the wave of the future, though--authors speculating more frequently about what the heck is going on with our wacky hologram.
Yes I am noticing quite a few videos on the Mandela effect and the Matrix. Better get it out before saturation lol. It'd interesting to learn about reasons for the Mandela effect that are not conspiracy based:)
It's scheduled! *chuckle* It's going to be an interesting next few years, no doubt about it. Who knows what secrets will come to light? And all of it fodder for creative souls. :)

It's coming out in the near future:) It should be an exciting time for us who live for this kind of stuff.
